“Everyone is talking about a healthy, high-protein diet these days. I say: eat game meat then. When it comes to eating meat, it doesn’t get any healthier than that!” Magdalene Grabitz knows what she is talking about. For more than 30 years, she and her husband Wolfgang have shared a passion for cooking with game. Next year, the couple will take to the stove at the WILD FOOD FESTIVAL for the 23rd time. During JAGD & HUND 2027, which takes place from 2 to 7 February, Dortmund’s Westfalenhalle will once again become a destination for culinary enjoyment. The first names and confirmations from the world of game cuisine are already whetting appetites for the festival.
Dortmund, 25 August 2026 – Incidentally, 70 per cent of Germans agree with Magdalene Grabitz and consider game meat to be healthy and natural. One in two eats it at least once a year, and half of these consumers even prepare it themselves. These are the findings of a representative Civey survey commissioned by the German Hunting Association (DJV).
Wolfgang Grabitz explains his wife’s statement: “Wild animals living in their natural habitat are not treated with antibiotics or other medicines. Nor are they subjected to stress caused by factors such as long-distance transport. The meat is not only high in protein but also low in cholesterol and fat.” Since passing their hunting examinations in 1977, the couple has prepared game meat with great creativity. For both, this is an integral part of hunting. Magdalene Grabitz has been teaching people how best to prepare game in seminars and workshops for more than 30 years. The couple from Paderborn have also published three cookbooks. Wolfgang and Magdalene now focus their joint efforts on event and live cooking – including at JAGD & HUND.
At next year’s WILD FOOD FESTIVAL, they will once again be joined by many fellow professionals – for example by game sommelier Michael Keller, Jan Urban, head chef at Haus Overkamp in Dortmund, and game sommelier Ruth Staudenmayer. Another new feature for 2027 is the stage’s location in the center of the Westfalenhalle. The live game kitchen will quite literally move to the heart of the action.
Around the stage, the WILD FOOD FESTIVAL 2027 will once again offer everything ambitious game cooks need – from ingredients, barbecues, knives and other accessories to fine game delicacies to sample. Game-meat specialties will be available from exhibitors including Bossmann, Das Grillfachgeschäft, Klauser Alm and Wildhandel König. At JAGD & HUND, Asamodo Asado Grillkultur will showcase barbecues and barbecue accessories; NOWA Manufaktur will present cookware, frying pans, pots and knives; and Grafschaft Kräuterlikör will offer ideas for an after-dinner digestif.
New exhibitors in 2027 will include Schlemmer Alarm and Royal Taste, serving game specialties ranging from gyros-style game meat in flatbread to game burgers.
